Uber drivers and passengers -- take warning.

I was just reading "The Armed Citizen" in my April issue of American Rifleman, about an Uber driver who was cut-off while driving a passenger to the airport in the Fort Lauderdale area  by an armed robber in busy traffic. Uber has a policy that its drivers CANNOT be armed, however, in this case the driver disobeyed the directive, was armed, and responded to the attack by shooting the criminal. Now, anyone savvy on self defense who understands how Uber works would  likely conclude this was a "targeted" attack.

 Why?

Because to me,  the criminal obviously knew that Uber drivers were supposed to be unarmed, and also knew you can locate each Uber driver in your area, visually, on the Uber website. Easy pickings! My guess is the criminal actually was following this Uber on a notebook or cell phone screen prior to the attack.  Likewise,  since the article seemed to indicate this was on the route to the airport -- a savvy criminal would also surmise the passenger was not armed, as an airline passenger cannot board with a firearm.  Thus, most airline passengers will be totally unarmed, or may have an unloaded gun in a locked box in baggage.  Totally useless for protection.

So, to all of you who use Uber -- to Uber drivers -- and to Uber --  be aware, with a "no gun" policy for drivers -- you can be an easily identified target for criminals looking for a supposedly easy score.

I highly recommend Uber change its policy for this reason, alone.
