Why do I recommend CCW Safe ???

I was reading a post on Facebook recommending Armed Citizens Legal Defense Fund as  primary self defense insurance, and while I like Armed Citizens quite a bit, and think membership is a great idea and important -- I still would not consider them as a primary for a few reasons:

First,  I don't think they cover civil, but only criminal.  I might be wrong on that, but looking at the website I believe that's correct.  Likewise,  what they spend on your case is up to them vs. the contract you may have with some other "self defense insurer".   However, the real problem is that they don't supply the attorney -- and while there may be plans that don't have or look for the "best" self defense attorneys out there -- I know CCW Safe works hard at finding only the best.

Now, you may ask -- why is having the "insurer" pick the attorney a better choice, rather than me?  And, of course, the answer also depends on who you pick as an insurer -- because if they are just trying to save money on an attorney, or not spending the time to "vet" the quality and experience of the attorney they chose -- maybe self selection is a better choice.  But, with CCW Safe -- I differ, and here's why:

My response, from experience, is because the problem with choosing your own attorney has four major pitfalls: (1)  you don't normally know how good they really are, (2)  you  normally don't know how well versed they are in self defense and firearms issues or how "pro-gun" they are, as it is my belief that only a really "pro-gun" attorney can win a tough self defense case; (3) it takes some time to try to figure out who you will eventually select,  and (4) every day it takes to find an attorney will work to your disadvantage in the long and short run. Of course -- if you are lucky enough to select the right guy or gal, it will also take them a few days to get "up to speed".  Likewise,  if you are waiting for a self defense insurer to fund them, the attorney will normally not be in a position to advance their own funds to hire an investigator or other help until  the money arrives.

That can be critical because usually -- getting an investigator on case in the first week after an incident is the most critical time, as it is when the evidence is the most fresh, and generally witnesses tend to clam up and get disinterested after the first few days, and even less so as time goes on. This is why I have consistently recommended CCW Safe -- as they have a ready and experienced "ready to be deployed" investigative team, and they have Don West as a national attorney coordinator. Don is one of the two attorneys who handled the Zimmerman case in Florida -- and he tries to, and should be able to select someone normally  significantly better than you can as an attorney.  Likewise,  they have a former homicide investigator who immediately will search social media for any information that might prove helpful to your defense.

So,  I know the reputation of the company, and the personnel involved, and while I really respect Armed Citizens (great organization, with the ability to provide some incredibly awesome expert testimony and help) and highly suggest membership in Armed Citizens  -- I  again repeat my strongest advice that you have CCW Safe as your primary "self defense insurance" plan. It's too inexpensive to even think of another option, and too extensive to not have as your primary.  But, having Armed Citizens as a backup can, and often will provide additional expert advice or testimony that can really prove helpful.

And yes -- I am affiliated with CCW Safe.  I asked to be involved in their advisory board years ago because I compared all the plans against each other -- and they were at the very top of the apex.  They still are, and even more so.  Plus,  now they also have a full insurance company backing them -- something no other plan has -- they cover the investigative team immediately,  and both the criminal, civil, and administrative sides of any case -- and as far as I know are the only one out there that will also back you on an appeal -- even if you lose the criminal case.

If you want to know more it's www.CCWSafe.com  -- and if you are an instructor, range, or gun store -- they have an affiliate program where you can earn some bucks for referring new members.  Something that is not only good for you -- but absolutely critical for your customers and students.  Just one of these cases can bankrupt most of us -- unless you have self defense insurance.
